Boys & Girls Clubs of Tracy Club Members “Being Great” in Their Community and the World

Sharing Soles for Souls

Over 300 million children are without shoes. This is one of the statistics that Lowell Torch Club members learned when they started their community service project, Soles4Souls. Ashley Sughayar says” Many of our Club members have expressed shame and embarrassment when others point out the condition of their shoes,” stated Lisa Sughayar, Director, and Lowell Unit. “The Torch Club members said they wanted to get involved to help others. “Teaching our youth about the project was extremely easy, telling them that Soles4Souls helps people all across America [and the world] to receive a pair of shoes when a hardship or catastrophic event has caused them to lose everything in their lives. Some of our Torch Club members even said we should walk around the Club all day without our shoes to prove a point.” Torch Club members spread the word in the community about the needed shoes.  Cash donations from parents helped pay for the shipping. Total number of shoes collected – 215 pairs for men, women and children. It’s a great day when you can teach compassion to our young people through community projects, projects across America and world-wide projects.
