What is a Typical Day like at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tracy?
The bell rings and school is out! All of our clubs are on school sites so our club members grab their backpacks and head over to one of our five club sites.
Each club member checks in with our staff into our member tracking system. This system allows us to know what club members are in our clubs at all times as safety is our number one priority when it comes to caring for our club members.
Free nutritious snacks are provided by Tracy Unified School District so our club members have something good and healthy to eat after school. Club Member Charles says “I love when we have warm chocolate chip cookies and milk for snack, those are the best!”
Homework time (Power Hour) begins right after snack. “I love Power Hour, says Ester, “I can earn points to buy cool prizes, just for doing my homework”. Power Hour is Boys & Girls Club homework hour where all club members work on homework and can get extra help from caring staff. “I have to get my homework done first if I want to play games or play in the gym” say club member Lisa. “Homework always comes first”.
After Power Hour ends, students that would like to have additional time to work on homework or special assignments from school, have a room to continue working. The other club members can now use the gym or games rooms where pool tables, ping pong tables and foosball tables are available at select clubs. “The games room always has board games and educational games to help kids learn while having fun” says staff member Leslie. “We try to sneak in learning everywhere”.
SMART Programs (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) are run at all age levels with age appropriate curriculum to teach club members to stay away from drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
Triple Play begins running in the gym. Empowering youth to eat right is a generation-changing, life-enhancing program goal and Triple Play’s nutrition component, called Healthy Habits, and covers the power of choice, calories, vitamins and minerals, the food pyramid and appropriate portion size. Healthy habits teach in three core areas: Mind, Body and Soul.
We have leadership/service clubs at Boys & Girls Clubs of Tracy that meet weekly. Your child might join Torch Club or Keystone Club. These clubs focus on service to our clubs, our community and the world. Members of these clubs might pick up trash in the park, paint over graffiti, visit with seniors at the Lolly Hansen Center, and collect money to help buy Malaria nets for Malaria No More or help other club members or help with staff with a project for their own club.
Arts and crafts will be called too. “Arts and crafts in my favorite part of the club” says Rhiannon. “We always do something fun!”
Before our club members know it, it is time for them to go home and enjoy time with family.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Tracy offers our club members a safe, positive place to come to every day, after school and all summer long.
